SEMINAR #8 "Discipline on the Bus" -
The school bus driver is the first and last adult that children come into
contact with during their school day. Poor relationships may adversely affect
student outcomes. Additionally, interactions between the students and the
driver may determine the
degree of decorum
present on the bus. Decorum is the prime determinant of
safety;
drivers cannot be distracted from their primary responsibility: safely
operating the bus. This seminar seeks to provide an understanding of the
5 basic needs
of all children along with
20 specific driver strategies
to consistently fulfill these needs. A proactive approach for prevention
assures safety, without diminishing the self-esteem of either children or
their dedicated, hard working drivers. All drivers leave the seminar with
a simple and concise manual covering all aspects of the training and are
encouraged to call or e-mail for continuing support.
