SEMINAR #2 - "Discipline & Teachers At-Risk" - Characteristics of "at-risk" students and the devastating effects these students have on staff, are identified and discussed. Very often, disruptive behaviors lead to undermining the teaching and learning processes leading to teacher burnout - (teachers at-risk!). In too many classroom across our country, two or three students determine the degree to which the teacher is able to teach. This directly affects outcomes for all students and can be prevented. A discipline plan (DP) must be in full force and effect in each and every classroom and is seen as inseparable from teaching and learning. Research based "best practices" together with presenter's professional experiences as a teacher, administrative assistant and principal, spanning 37 years, come together to help participants create their own vibrant, proactive, participatory and engaging DP. It is no longer enough for districts to develop "codes of conduct" (well intentioned documents which wind up deep within a student handbook and forgotten upon some shelf). Every teacher must develop and use, on a daily basis, a DP specific to their particular venue. This will assure that teacher and students achieve both the satisfaction and success they deserve. Administrators, in addition to teaching staff, are invited to attend this seminar.
